Research & Development - Joanneum Research

JOANNEUM RESEARCH is a extra-university research institution in Carinthia. As an innovation and technology provider in the field of applied research, they have a lasting and human-centered impact on the development of our modern society and economy. Located in Lakesidepark Klagenfurt, JOANNEUM RESEARCH is represented by the institutes ROBOTICS, DIGITAL – DIGITAL TWIN LAB, LIFE and POLICIES.

ROBOTICS – Institute for Robotics and Flexible Production

The »Joanneum Institute for Robotics and Mechatronics« is one of six Joanneum Research Institutes. It is positioned at the crossroads of fundamental research and applications in the physical world. Its orientation can certainly be described as interdisciplinary: between research areas (control engineering, artificial intelligence, cognitive science, algebra), generations (teachers, students, pupils) as well as between research, industry and smaller companies.

Robotics Key Research Areas

  • Collaborative/cognitive robotics
  • Robot safety and security
  • Inverse cinematics
  • Control engineering
  • Mechanics
  • Mechatronics
  • Sensors
  • Artificial intelligence
  • Adaptive actions
  • Human-robot collaboration
  • Symbolic algebra
  • Applications

The Challenge

Social interaction between robots and humans.

The laboratory is being built and industrial table-top robots are currently being tested. Even larger industrial robots will be housed in the planned laboratory.
