Carinthian production companies are faced with the major challenge of the fourth Industrial Revolution: Industry 4.0. The Carinthian government offers numerous initiatives and promotion activities to support Carinthian companies in their individual digitalisation efforts. One of these service tools is a quick-check for companies on the www.smartindustry-carinthia.at platform.

The Online Digital Maturity Assessment Tool is a slimmed-down assessment tool developed by the Industrial Engineering department of the Carinthian University of Applied Sciences (FH Kärnten). "The tool enables Carinthian production operations to assess their status quo and see where they stand compared to a benchmark group of 20 Carinthian companies", explains project mastermind FH-Prof. DI Dr. Roland Willmann of the Carinthian University of Applied Sciences.

The method was developed by experts of the Carinthian University of Applied Sciences under the supervision of Prof. Roland Willmann and implemented in cooperation with BABEG (Kärntner Betriebsansiedlungs- & Beteiligungsgesellschaft). "BABEG wants to contribute to introducing Carinthian business people to the opportunities that digitalisation offers for the production sector. This is why we are offering this platform", says BABEG CEO Mag. Hans Schönegger explaining BABEG's involvement in this project.

The target group is Carinthian companies in the production trade and the manufacturing environment. This online platform is a tool for a first stock-taking and self-assessment of a company's degree of digital maturity. In the assessment process, the companies are compared with a benchmark group of 20 Carinthian companies of different sizes and from various industries. Ideally this first assessment will be completed by an in-depth analysis carried out by the experts of the Carinthian University of Applied Sciences

No two companies are alike and each production enterprise needs to find its own approach to the new wave of digitalisation and making it part of its operations in the best possible way. Sooner or later every entrepreneur will have to deal with this issue to stay competitive in the long term.
