The Province of Carinthia was delighted when Infineon Austria announced the expansion of its facility in Villach, or more precisely the expansion of Production and R&D, with an investment of 1.6 billion euros. The decision in favour of Carinthia had been taken against international competition, and Infineon always stressed the optimum conditions this Austrian Province has to offer.

The ground-breaking ceremony kicking off the first phase of construction took place a few days ago. Infineon had invited its suppliers to the ceremony to inform them about the expansion, present the business possibilities resulting from it and to swear them in to a common bond under the motto "Power Growth - Be part of it".

Member of the Board Oliver Heinrich was the host of the event and together with CEO Sabine Herlitschka and COO Thomas Reisinger he presented the roadmap and first details of the most advanced Industry 4.0 production facility for power semiconductors on 300 mm thin wafers. 750 new jobs will be created at the Villach plant by 2021.

BABEG | Invest in Carinthia, represented by Michael Zwantschko (head of Investment Consulting) was invited by Infineon and given the unique opportunity to present Carinthia as a business location to the suppliers who had come to Villach from around the world and interest them in expanding their companies to Carinthia. He outlined the factors that make Carinthia attractive as a business location, the good funding conditions, especially in the field of research, and the unrivalled quality of life that Carinthia, and Villach in particular, have to offer. He concluded his presentation with the phrase "Invest and expand in a region where other people spend their holidays" a phrase that earned a massive round of applause. After this he was available for questions from some first companies that expressed their interest in making an investment in Carinthia.
